Committee
The Search Committee shall follow guidelines provided in Board Policy 4011.6 which is currently under review. Please check back for possible revisions. BP 4011.6 currently outlines this committee composition:

  • The Chancellor or Board designee will select six administrators and managers
  • The Chancellor or Board designee will appoint the Search Committee Chair
  • Each Academic Senate will select one faculty member
  • The South Orange County Community College District Faculty Association will select one faculty member
  • The California School Employees Association Chapter 586 (“CSEA”) will select one classified employee
  • The Police Officers Association (“POA”) will select one of its members


Timeline

Nov. 1, 2017 – Jan. 3, 2018   Position Advertised – District receives applications
January 3, 2018   Initial screening deadline for guaranteed consideration. Position open until filled
January 4-5, 2018   H. R. prepares applications for review
Jan. 8 – 19, 2018   Committee completes application screening
Jan. 22 -30, 2018   Committee meets to identify first level interviewees
Jan. 31 - Feb. 20, 2018   Consultants conduct reference checks on first level interviewees
Feb. 26 – March 2, 2018   Committee Interviews Candidates (first level interviews)
March 2, 2018   Consultants provide reference check report to Committee and Committee recommends candidates for second level/ final interviews with Board; Meet with Board representatives
March 5 – April 6, 2018   Consultants conduct in-depth reference check on finalists
April 23, 2018 or special mtg   Board discussion regarding finalist candidates; board provided in depth reference check information; final approval of candidates to be interviewed for finalist stage
May 7-11, 2018   Finalist Interview Week, Campus Forums (one at IVC, one at SC), Interview with Chancellor’s Council, Campus Tours, and Final Interviews with Board of Trustees
May 2018  

Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees; Board discussed chancellor search finalists; board decides whether to conduct site visit; board decides whether to hold further interviews with desired candidate; and/or board decides if offer will be made; Board authorize board president, Vice Chancellor – HR, and/or Interim Chancellor to negotiate and finalize contract

TO BE DETERMINED   Site Visit (if desired); if not site visits, Board makes offer and Consultants assist Interim Chancellor and/or Vice Chancellor Human Resources, Legal Counsel, and Board President with negotiation of contract with successful candidate, as needed
May or June 2018   Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees; appoint successful finalist, approve contract, introduce the new Chancellor
July 1st 2018 (or earlier)   New Chancellor projected start date (to be negotiated)
