  • SC and IVC spring 2011 community education courses, presenters and compensation.     
  • acceptance of a sub-award grant along with Santa Monica College for $530,000 to IVC from the U.S. Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration for training to unemployed and dislocated workers in Orange County. 
  • reorganization of staffing in the Performing Arts Center and Facilities Maintenance and Operations at IVC. 

 

  • announcement and recruitment of new and replacement full-time faculty for the 2011-12 academic year at SC and IVC.
  • employment agreement with Gary L. Poertner as Chancellor.
 
PRESENTATIONS, DISCUSSION, REPORTS
 
  • Dr. Nicole Ortega, SC Research and Planning Analyst, and Christoper Tarman, IVC Research and Planning Analyst, led a discussion on the colleges' performance indicators in the Accountability Reporting for the Community Colleges (ARCC).  AB1417 requires that the ARCC performance indicators be discussed with the Board of Trustees.  Click here for the SC presentation.  Click here for the IVC presentation. 
  • Trustees expressed gratitude to Acting Chancellor Bullock for her service, congratulated Board President Wagner on his Assembly win and congratulated Marcia Milchiker, Nancy M. Padberg and T.J. Prendergast on their re-election/election to our Board. Trustees Milchiker and Padberg thanked all their supporters. Trustee Thomas A. Fuentes presented a report from the Orange County Community Colleges Legislative Task Force.

  • Acting Chancellor Bullock spoke about her wonderful experience and that she has learned so much as Acting Chancellor. She complimented all the District Services staff , in particular Robina Allen and Grace Garcia. She has been meeting with incoming Chancellor Gary Poertner for a smooth transition.

  • SC President Tod Burnett's written report included mention of: Veterans Day events; nursing student Katie McClusky being named California Nursing Student of the Year and Professor Linda Gleason as California Nursing Teacher of the Year by the CA Student Nurses Association; Community Education relocation to the Village to increase access to the community; for the second year, the SC Freshman Academy was selected for study and observation as a model basic skills project as part of a research project by the Tillery Institute at Berkeley; events in the Division of Fine Arts and Media Technology; and Emeritus Institute 2011 Distinguished Guest Lecture Series.
  • IVC President Glenn Roquemore's written report included mention of: Theatre Department featuring Bye Bye Birdie; new student handbook; President Roquemore giving the welcome address at the California and Nevada Phi Theta Kappa Leadership Conference; Chem Lab Open House; 12 members of the Speech and Debate Team took honors at the California Double-Up Invitational; celebration of Disability Awareness Month; PIO/Publications Team winning five medallion awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations; and the IVC Foundation raising a total of $251,535 in new scholarship endowments with the Osher Foundation matching funds. 
  • ATEP Provost Randy Peebles' written report included mention of: first phase of demolition of the former marine base buildings beginning in early December with projected duration of 120 days; working with CB Richard Ellis (commercial broker) on developing marketing plans for a comprehensive, nationwide partner search to begin early next year; initiation of a study to determine the feasibility, potential use options and costs for the former base chapel; and continuing progress in obtaining New Market Tax Credits to offset development costs by as much as $8 million.

Television broadcast is scheduled for 7pm on both Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33.  SC TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday, November 21 at 7pm.
