Sworn in by Orange County Superior Court Commissioner Lyle Robertson for new four year terms through 2014 were incumbent trustees Nancy M. Padberg and Marcia Milchiker and newly elected trustee T.J. Prendergast, III.

He received a resolution in honor of his 18 years of service on the Board of Trustees.  President Roquemore and President Burnett also presented recognition to Trustee Williams on behalf of Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College.

  • a resolution establishing the procedure to appoint a provisional board member to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Trustee Williams.
  • SC Study Abroad Program to Santander, Spain for the summer of 2011. 

  • SC spring 2011 community education courses, presenters and compensation.     
  • award of bid for $168,951 for simulation equipment for the SC Health Sciences program to simulate patient interactions using wireless, high fidelity technology. 
  • acceptance for review and study of the district annual audit report for 2009-10. 


  • assignment of district-owned Hillpointe/Promenade Apartments to LS Promenade Apartments, LLC and authorization to execute terms of the assignment and assumption. 
  • contracts with Neudesic LLC for additional Student Information System and
    Data Warehouse features in an amount up to $970,000 and for system audits and emergency support in an amount up to $200,000. 
  • a memorandum of understanding with the County of Orange for a land exchange for the ATEP site. 
  • a resolution expressing the intent to expedite approval of transfer degrees in order to
    have SB 1440 fully implemented by fall, 2011. The passage of SB 1440 is a significant measure aimed at improving transfer rates from community colleges to the California State University system. It is anticipated that once the AA transfer degrees proposed by SB 1440 are in place, many more transfer students will earn an associate degree and students will be guaranteed a place in the CSU system with junior standing.
  • In addition to election of officers, the Board made the following appointments: Chancellor Gary Poertner as secretary of the Board and Vice Chancellor David Bugay as assistant secretary; Trustee Prendergast as representative to the nominating committee to the Committee on School District Organization, and Trustee Milchiker as alternate representative; Trustee Lang as the political action representative to the Orange County School Boards Association; Trustee Jay as the liaison to the Orange County Community College Trustees Association; Trustee Fuentes as the representative to the Orange County Legislative Task Force and Trustee Milchiker as alternate representative.

  • The Board approved the meeting dates and times for 2011, a planning calendar and a list of discussion topics. Click here to view the meeting schedule.
  • Trustees welcomed Trustee Prendergast to the Board and expressed their appreciation and good wishes to Trustee Williams and Robina Allen, who is retiring. Trustee Milchiker was congratulated on receiving a service pin in recognition of 25 years on the Board, and Dr. Carmen Dominguez was recognized for an impressive SC Feast of Lights performance. The meeting was adjourned in memory of: Dr. Fred Bremer, former Saddleback College president; Francisco Cinto, Saddleback College custodian; and Nicholas Nikolenko, IVC police officer.
  • Chancellor Gary L. Poertner expressed gratitude to the Board of Trustees for the confidence they have shown in him and said he is delighted to be back. He announced that the colleges have received approvals from the Accrediting Commission for their substantive change proposals regarding ATEP.

  • SC President Tod Burnett's written report included mention of: Emergency Medical Services Department receiving its own ambulance from Orange County Fire Authority; holiday performance including A Christmas Carol and A Feast of Lights; Classified Senate raising donations to assemble over 30 Thanksgiving baskets and totes for student veterans; updates from Veterans, CalWORKS, EOPS and DSPS programs; ASG sponsoring an outdoor screening of the film Inception; and 18 ASG officers attending the Circle of Change leadership conference at Cal State, Long Beach.
  • IVC President Glenn Roquemore's written report included mention of: women's golf team winning the state championship; alumni Jeffrey Ross-Ibarra being recognized with the White House Early Career in Sciences & Engineering award; Dance Perspectives, featuring work by 16 year old music student Vartan Simonian; Veterans Day tribute; music alumni Raul Vega Hernandez writing the program notes for Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra; and 14 students being selected to participate at the Music Association of California Community Colleges State Conference.

The Board meeting will be available for viewing online later in the week. Television broadcast is scheduled for 7pm on both Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33.  SC TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday, December 12 at 7pm.
