Dr. David Bugay was honored for his many accomplishments and outstanding leadership while serving for one year as Acting Vice Chancellor of Business Services in addition to his regular position as Vice Chancellor of Human Resources.

State Champions

Irvine Valley College Men's Volleyball Team was honored for their fourth state championship. The team was coached by Ki Yi and Tom Pestolesi. State tournament MVP Brandon Directo accepted the award for the team.

State Champions

Irvine Valley College Women's Badminton Team was honored for their sixth state championship. The team was coached by Martin McGrogan who was name Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year.

Classified School Employee Week

Classified School Employees were honored for the valuable skills, services, and support they provide to students, faculty, administrators, and staff of the South Orange County Community College District. CSEA President Duane Main accepted the award.

  • the SOCCCD tentative budget for fiscal year 2011-2012 in the amount of $528.7 million.
    Dr. Debra L. Fitzsimons
    presented an overview of the budget, stating it is conservative, balanced and may need revisions depending on the final outcome of the state budget.
  • tentative budgets for the Saddleback College Associated Student Government (ASG) budget in the amount of $847,052 and Associated Students of lrvine Valley College (ASIVC) in the amount of $491,000 for the 2011-2012 academic year. Students presented overviews of their budgets to the board.
  • reorganization within the Office of lnstruction at lrvine Valley College to establish the Office of
    Academic Programs overseeing the newly consolidated Office of Extended Education which includes Community Education, Contract Education, Emeritus Institute and the Testing Center.
  • an agreement with Joyce Inspections to provide DSA Inspector of Record services for
    the lrvine Valley College Life Sciences project in the amount of $278,208.
  • an agreement with gkkworks to provide architectural and engineering services for the
    renovation of the Technology and Applied Sciences Building at Saddleback College
    in the amount of $449,000.
  • an agreement with Griffith Company to construct the East Bridge Replacement Project at Saddleback College to in the amount of $576,386.
  • a National Teacher's Training Workshop on Rapid Prototyping to be held at the University of California, lrvine campus, August 1-5, 2011, paid by RapidTech's NSF Grant.
  • a Saddleback College grant award renewal of $169,487 from the Board of Governors, California Community College Chancellor's Office, for the Enrollment Growth and Retention Program.
  • an agreement with GBH Communications in the amount of $116,335.81 to purchase LifeSize hardware, software, and support services for five additional video conferencing hardware systems throughout the district.
  • renewal agreements with Blackboard in an amount not to exceed $199,361.41, for Blackboard Student Services (formerly Presidium), 7x24 help-desk services for faculty and students, and Blackboard Connect, an emergency mass email and text notification service.
  • the District's Order of Priority for the Five Year Construction Plan to be submitted to the State Chancellor's Office.
  • an agreement with Perceptive Software for a Document Management Solution in the amount of $426,845.00 in basic aid funds which will deploy a single integrated document scanning,
    retrieval, and workflow solution across multiple work groups district-wide.
  • procurement of server infrastructure, storage, infrastructure, and scan stations in the amount of
    $232,357.32 in basic aid funds to support the Document Management Solution.
  • funds in the amount of $3,901.41 for a revised contract amount of $47,901.41 for the ATEP Drainage Ditch Maintenance and Repair project.
  • Trustee Prendergast spoke about how proud and honored he was to be a part of IVC's Early College graduation, given his dual roles as Trustee and teacher/coach at Beckman High. Student Trustee Larson said he is anxious to meet other student trustees at the upcoming state conference and is looking forward to working with both college student government presidents this year. There were no other trustee reports.
  • Chancellor Poertner introduced the new Vice Chancellor of Business Services, Dr. Debra L. Fitzsimons and welcomed her depth of experience as she joins SOCCCD to manage all business operations including payroll, accounting, risk management, benefits, purchasing, and facility planning, as well as overseeing Board Policies and Administrative Regulations.
  • Saddleback College - President Tod Burnett's report included mention of: hosting Vice Chancellor of Government Affairs Marlene Garcia from the State Chancellor's Office to speak about the political environment, budget and key legislative issues; college foundation flag day event hosted at the Veterans Memorial; President Burnett's new campus events and news blog; KSBR Birthday Bash; auditions held for Seussical Jr., a collaborative musical; Civic Light Opera is hosting a fresh and vibrant take on Oklahoma! from July 15-31. 25 active duty military toured the campus; a new EOPS Student Success Program to address roadblocks to academic success; College for Kids registration has begun; direct mail advertising to 300,000 homes, website to target new students; new graphic standards developed for college communications.

  • Irvine Valley College - President Glenn Roquemore's report included mention of: college athletics program earned its highest ranking ever as ninth in final state standings for 2010-11; congratulations to Men's Volleyball and Women's Badminton State Champions; hosting American Cancer Society's Relay for Life; freshman Scott Kaplan named to 2011 Southern California All-American baseball team; Irvine City Council honored IVC's state champions in women's golf, men's volleyball, women's badminton and national champions in debate at the city council meeting on May 23; IVC launched Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages; IVC English faculty held a workshop with Irvine Unified High School and four middles schools to work on intersegmental alignment of English curriculum; 38th annual Irvine Senior Scholar Athlete Awards held June 6.
  • ATEP - Associate Vice Chancellor Randy Peebles' report included mention of: a review of the last few months of activity for ATEP, including the first building in the ATEP expansion to begin as education programs are identified by the colleges; site configuration improvements progressing from negotiations with the City of Tustin and County of Orange; potential partner criteria identified and approved; new markets tax credit endeavor that could yield $17 million in funding; and marketing efforts for potential partners under way by CB Richard Ellis.

The Board meeting will be available for viewing online later in the week at Television broadcasts are scheduled for 7 pm on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2, on Saddleback College Channel 39 and Irvine Valley College Channel 33.  SC TV39 has an additional broadcast on Sunday, July 3 at 7 pm.
