Setarra Matin

Setarra Matin, Student TrusteeSatara Matin assumed the position of Student Trustee for the South Orange County Community College District via the live Zoom Board of Trustees meeting on Monday evening. Board President Marcia Milchiker administered the virtual oath of office.

Setarra, who will serve in the Student Trustee role for 2021-2022 to represent all students throughout SOCCCD, is a Saddleback College student, majoring in business administration and minoring in international relations.

“I am beyond excited to serve as Student Trustee this year. I hope my role as Student Trustee will make a positive difference for IVC and Saddleback students,” said Setarra.

Setarra hopes to increase diversity and equity, especially for first generation immigrants. She also would like to help destigmatize mental health among students. Ultimately, her goal is to communicate with the IVC and Saddleback students to ensure that the needs of the students are being met. “I aim to make sure that the voices of students are amplified in future board meetings,” said Setarra.

In addition to working hard as Student Trustee, Setarra plans to remain engaged with her many volunteer activities, which include continuing her role as Saddleback’s Director of the Events Committee, volunteering at Mercy’s Warehouse Food Bank every week, maintaining her membership with the pre-law society, and her internship with Turnup (an activism app) that participates in activism on many progressive/social justice issues including climate change, Black Lives Matter, and voter turnout efforts.

“We are thrilled to welcome Setarra to serve as Student Trustee. The student voice will be more vital than ever as we continue to navigate through this virtual environment,” said Chancellor Kathleen Burke.
