MISSION VIEJO, CA – The South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) will hold a historic investiture of its 10th chancellor, Dr. Julianna M. Asperin Barnes, Thursday, April 27, 2023.
An investiture is a time-honored tradition in academia, during which the community college district will formally confer the authority and symbols of the office on Chancellor Barnes, who began her tenure at SOCCCD in August of 2022.
The investiture ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Irvine Valley College – Performing Arts Center located at 5500 Irvine Center Drive, Irvine, CA 92618. Among those invited to attend are leaders of area academic institutions, business and community leaders, government officials, friends of the district, and alumni, faculty, staff, and students of Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College.
The event will provide Chancellor Barnes an opportunity to share her vision for the future of SOCCCD in addition to remarks from the Board of Trustees, college president, and governance leaders across the district.
“On behalf of the SOCCCD Board of Trustees, we are excited to welcome Chancellor Barnes. Her years of experience in the community college system as well as her deep commitment to student success and innovation are just a couple reasons why she was picked to lead the district’s efforts in serving the next generation of students with excellent educational programs and support services at Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College. Additionally, we are assured by her leadership efforts to strengthen partnerships with the business and non-profit community throughout Orange County. The future is bright for SOCCCD,” said Board President Timothy Jemal.
