Mission Viejo, CA — The South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD), which proudly serves over 50,000 students across Saddleback College, Irvine Valley College, and the Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP), is pleased to join the statewide celebration of Community College Awareness Month this April. Throughout the month, SOCCCD leaders, trustees, and college representatives will be participating in city council meetings, civic engagements, and presentations to highlight the value, impact, and achievements of community colleges.
“This month is about telling our story—one of affordability, equitable access and success, and transformation,” said Chancellor Julianna M. Asperin Barnes. “Community colleges are the gateway to opportunity, and we’re proud to be at the forefront of innovation, workforce development, and student equity economic and social mobility in Orange County.”
In collaboration with local municipalities, SOCCCD will be featured in public meetings across the region. These presentations will spotlight recent district accomplishments such as:
- National recognition of both colleges by WalletHub as top-performing community colleges in California and the nation.
- The progress and development at ATEP.
- Reaffirmation of accreditation for both Saddleback College and Irvine Valley College.
- Growing enrollment and increased dual enrollment programs with local high schools.
- Strategic investment in student success, equity, and mental health services.
Board President Carolyn Inmon shared,
“We are honored to be recognized by our city and state partners. These presentations reflect our strong relationships with local leaders and our shared commitment to student advancement and community prosperity.”
SOCCCD will also be sharing key data and stories with the Orange County Department of Education to showcase how the district is helping bridge equity gaps and prepare students for both university transfer and in-demand careers.
